NORTHS BULLDOGS 24
DEF
CORRIMAL 0
How sweet it was to go 2 up on the defending Premiers, but the victory was made much sweeter from the brilliant defensive effort from the Norths boys keeping the Cougars scoreless for the full 70mins. Our President Peter Carroll summed it up as "The best defensive game from a Norths side in recent history".
With the match played at midday in 25 degree heat the fitness of the Norths side was always going to give them a leg up, but as the first half progressed the Bulldogs had 4 penalties go against them in 6 sets. Now in previous weeks this would have been 2 or 3 tries to the opposition, but not today and not against Corrimal. The defensive grit of the Norths boys was faultless & very pleasing to see. It shows the boys are listening at training & really having a crack at achieving the goals the coach has set out for them.
At Halftime the score was 6-0 in Norths favor, given Corrimal had the wind behind them, we knew the second half would make it that much harder for the Cougars to claw back into the game. With the kicking game of Norths half Nathan potter, which was by far the best general play kicking performance of the season, the Bulldogs mounted pressure & the Cougars buckled.
It has been spoken about at length throughout the year, when we have teams on the ropes we need to hold our composure & apply pressure, not push the pass, but be patient...the points will come. In the second half, that's exactly what the boys did, like I said earlier it was so pleasing to see the team respond to identified improvements.
So now we come to our next match against Mt Kembla, this one will be the last of our 3 road trips away from Jim Allen & will test our lads. With the competition taking shape the top three sides have been defined & the Lowries are one of them. It's always a great game up at Mt Kembla Oval, with a great crowd on the hill & the Norths boys will be keen to retain the coveted Corona Cup.
The club is arranging a bus to the match for all players, WAGS, supporters & families of the Norths club. Details can be found on our Facebook Page or by following this link: https://www.facebook.com/events/246555228886065/
