NORTHS BULLDOGS 28

DEF

WINDANG 6

The Bulldogs took on Windang on Saturday up at Jim Allen Oval in some very chilly and blustery conditions. The boys notched up another win making it 3 in a row and placing them on top of the table.

The first half saw a different side take the field for the Bulldogs. It was a chance for some players to get some more game time under their belts but also gain some much needed experience…experience that would add to our depth off the bench for the season to come. With a few different combinations we were not aiming at a big score line but instead getting through our sets and competing with a high completion rate. Having said this it wasn't long before we had crossed the line with Johnny Pett winding the clock back and running 90 metres for a great run away try. The Bulldogs kept the pressure up with an outstanding completion rate of 100% which allowed them to cross the line again, this time through Tommy Forrest. Unfortunately due to a bad injury for one of the opposition players the Ambulance was called and the last 15 minutes of the first half was cancelled.

At half time we talked about achieving our set goals for the match like our completion rates. We also discussed using the very gusty wind to our advantage. In hindsight we should have discussed more about our discipline as we gave away too many silly penalties which allowed Windang to score an easy try under the posts. Letting Windang score was something we were really trying to avoid, however when we give a way easy meters from our penalties teams our bound to make us pay.

The boys didn't let the easy try get to them, in the end the Bulldogs ran away with the game with tries to Shaun Helt, Ben Field and Nathan Sams. There were some great performances by a number of players with the Scarborough Upholstery Players Player going to Nathan Sams. Also deserved of a mention are Kurt Ridley and Tim Everingham.

Although we have won three in a row and are sitting on top of the table I feel we are in a bit of a form slump. We certainly aren't playing to our full potential and we persist with putting ourselves under pressure with impatient and undisciplined football. We have a run of hard games coming up and I hope we lift for the occasion. We are coasting along at the moment and I don't think we have really been tested yet. Make no mistakes about it, if we don't learn from our mistakes and get smarter as a side we are in for a rude shock. Let’s dig deep boys as I know we have it in us.

See you all at training.
